Rockets Red Glare, oil on canvas, 12x12, 2008

This painting was one of my first abstractions. It began as most of my works do, with me simply experimenting with application techniques. I stopped painting because I felt it had nice rhythm and pattern variation. Looking at it now I can see how I was inspired by the artists I was reading about, Frankenthaler and Jasper Johns and Rothco.

  1. This beautiful piece of art reminds me of plowed wheat fields with red and orange brush further in the distance. There is blue water and even blue sky peeking through sun-lit, tall, orange and brown trees yeilding green bushy tree leaves and hanging moss. There is more patchy growth of yellow plant life beyond the water's edge. Magnificent, lovely painting!
